CTE Courses Offered at Ashbrook High School

Gaston County Schools offers a wide range of Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses to help students explore future careers and gain real-world skills. At Ashbrook High School, students can choose from several hands-on CTE classes, including:

  • Internships and Apprenticeships
  • Accounting
  • Adobe Design Tools
  • Automotive Services
  • Computer Science
  • Drone Technology
  • Entrepreneurship, Business Essentials, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Fashion and Textiles
  • Foods and Nutrition
  • Health Sciences and Nursing Fundamentals
  • Law and Justice
  • Logistics
  • Marketing, Sales, Sports and Event Marketing

These courses give students a chance to learn valuable job skills, explore career paths, and prepare for life after graduation.

Proof of Learning (POL)
The Career and Technical Education program mandates all students enrolled complete a Proof of Learning (POL).  The POL counts 20% of the student’s final grade in the course. 

WorkKeys Assessment
WorkKeys is a job skills assessment system designed by the American College Testing (ACT) Program that helps employers select, hire, train, develop, and retain a high-performance workforce. Seniors who complete a four-course CTE career cluster sequence that includes a second-level Career and Technical Education course participate in the WorkKeys assessment. Eligible students may earn a National Career Readiness Certificate.
